As The Stomach Churns Lab

This week in science, our class has completed a lab. This lab was focused on the digestive system and how different things could happen without one of those important things. In this case, we were advised to take a the egg white of a boiled egg and put it into a test tube. In this first test tube, our group put tenderizer in the test tube which acted like the enzyme. In test tube B, it consisted of the tenderizer and water. In test tube C, it consisted of just hydrochloric acid. And finally test tube D, consisted of the tenderizer and the hydrochloric acid.
The main purpose of this lab was to see which test tube had the most impact on the egg whites. The test tube that had the most impact on the egg whites was test tube D. This test tube consisted of hydrochloric acid and the tenderizer. When these two matierals were added, an imediate reaction was seen. The eggs automaticly started to deform and reduce in size. This is a proccess called the digestive system. The reason that this worked so quickly is because, in the actual human stomach what breaks it down is hydrochloric acid and enzymes. If we were to observe this test tube a couple days later, the egg white would already be mostly digested because the chemicals are working together to break the food down. In conclusion, this lab made me understand how the digestive system works, and what happens in it. Also, without any of these components, the digestive system wouldn't work properly. So it does need the enzymes and the hydrochloric acid to digest the food.
