Procedure:

  1. Drain water from plastic cup into the flask using the funnel and spoon.

  2. Remove toothpicks from the plastic cup and place them on the tray.

  3. Remove beans with the scooper and place on the filter.

  4. Pour the water from the flask into the graduated beaker and place on the hot plate.

  5. Remove excess water from the plastic cup using the pipette and drop into the graduated beaker (which is on the hot plate).

  6. Remove marble from the plastic cup and place on the filter.

  7. Remove the black substance and place it on the filter. Use the magnet to see if the substance is metal.

  8. This substance is identified as metal filings. Try to remove all of the metal filings from the magnet (this is a challenge).

  9. This substance left in the cup was identified as sand.

  10. Look over to the beaker and the hot plate. Remove the beaker from the hot plate and unplug the hot plate.

  11. Wash the scooper.
