This week in Science we did a lab on the population of fish and how they live. This lab was also about genes and alleles of the different colored toothpick fish. In this lab we used toothpicks as the fish and a plastic cup as the pond. We had to pick out toothpics in pairs and write the data down in the chart. In the first generation, most of the fish offspring were green. In the second generation, the green fish showed as the most again. In the third generation, the green fish still showed as the most. And in the fourth generation, the green fish showed the most common offspring. This means that the green fish will live longer because they blend in the water. All the other data showed that it was less likely for the offspring to be the colors red orange and yellow. But after all of that, there is a disaster that occured, it was a spill of waste that killed the algae and seaweed and made the green fish seen and all of them were eaten.
The generations in this lab have changed. It all changed because the yellow fish population started shrinking to a very small amount very fast. The chance of getting yellow offspring was rare. The chance off yellow offspring got smaller and smaller and then the waste was dumped and all of the green fish were exposed and they all died. As a result of this the population of fish changed a lot because a whole population was now gone.
